+ Canadian Environment Minister Jim Prentice appointed an expert panel to review monitoring practices on oilsands water; Government of Alberta also expected to appoint an oversight body to look at contamination levels in rivers downstream from mines




 COMMENTARY 

+ natural gas producers, the ones not starving for cash flow, are considering shutting-in production while awaiting higher prices; prices will fall further due to lack of demand, the question remains when market will bottom out; ConocoPhillips is first to lead the way . . others expected to follow

 

+ it has a media circus; James Cameron the Canadian born Hollywood director of Titanic and Avatar came to Alberta, visited oil sands mines and learned that the issue is more complex than he thought, that companies and governments have technology, regulation and oversight . . had his 5 minutes of coverage and went home again. I’m not sure what was accomplished beyond publicity generation for him

 

+ kudos to STARS air ambulance – celebrating 25 years of service in Alberta
