+ Libyan rebels continue to take control of oil assets in quest to overthrow Ghaddafi regime
+ Tuscany Energy Ltd. and Sharon Energy Ltd. agreed to combine
GOLF JOKE
My neighbour lives on her own and has set herself up as a handyperson to carry out small decorating jobs. She visited the local golf club and spoke to the manager about work. The manager decided the porch of the clubhouse could use a coat of paint and showed my neighbour where she could find paint and brushes. The manager set off for his daily round of golf but he had only reached the 4th tee when my neighbour joined him and said "I've finished the painting and even managed two coats. By the way it wasn't a porch it was a ferrari."
COMMENTARY
+ Portugal is on the ropes, looking for an EU bailout, while the entire European union is anxious about Libyan conflict, stability throughout the middle east (meaning continuity of oil supply) and over-arching concerns for GDP growth . . . which, when considered together with the shaky state of the U.S. economy, gives few reasons for a joyous outlook
+ with a Federal election looming, the Alberta Tory leadership race will be hard pressed to generate any front page headlines for a while – and expect most political types and volunteers to be similarly distracted . . . so the race to replace Ed Stelmach as Premier will just have to wait – to be fought during the Stampede breakfast and BBQ circuit with a vote in the fall . . .
+ kudos to Steve Carruthers and crew at Zeidler Partnership Architects, honoured by the Alberta Steel Design Awards of Excellence for its design of the 59-storey BOW tower
QUOTE
‘Each candidate behaved well in the hope of being judged worthy of election. However, this system was disastrous when the city had become corrupt. For then it was not the most virtuous but the most powerful who stood for election, and the weak, even if virtuous, were too frightened to run for office.’ – Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527)
