  COMMENTARY + argument

+ the BP well in the Gulf of Mexico appears shut, for the moment, after 85 days of leaking oil but the plot, if not the oil, thickens; the US government is pushing for a resumption of taking off oil once testing of the cap is resolved, the seepage detected at the cap has prompted the order from Gen. Thad Allen to continue testing and to resume siphoning off oil while BP seem determined to keep it closed, close it off after the relief well is completed . . . one must wonder what roles the lawyers and accountants on each side are playing in this ongoing public relations nightmare as the cleanup and lawsuits will no doubt go on for decades but it seems the politics will focus on the run-up to November mid-term elections in the U.S. .. .. stay tuned, there will definitely be lots more
