INFRASTRUCTURE/P3/GREEN/LEED

+ YYC/Calgary Airports is launching its $2 billion airport expansion project; Calgary City Council continues to debate the merits/costs of a $ 295 million tunnel under the new runway. Levies, tolls and project trade-offs all seem to be in play as Mayor Nenshi leads the charge to persuade council . . . stay tuned, this issue is far from resolved. It’s the right thing to do, the question is whether or not council will do it and how they propose to pay for it.

COMMENTARY

+ the plans of TransCanada Corp for the $7 billion Keystone XL Pipeline continues to irk the U.S. environmental lobby, but they are getting some heavyweight help; Prime Minister Harper has been prevailing upon President Obama for help – a key to moving Fort Mac synthetic crude . .

+ everyone has an opinion on the ENMAX firing of CEO Gary Holden, on the governance of that company, the $4.6 million severance package paid him; I’ve tried to follow it – it seems the CBC exposed that he took a free trip to Monaco in 2008, and for that he got fired in 2011, which in turn triggered the payout.  City council and the CBC may feel good about this, but I wonder what would have happened if a reprimand rather than a firing was chosen.  Wouldn’t the guy still be making huge profits for the city, and wouldn’t the city have saved $4.6 million?
