- FACILITY Calgary - now in it's 26th year - every Tuesday morning - getting better, growing our audience, offering 'things you want to know' to people who want to know it
A message from FACILITYCalgary publisher Mark Kolke.
We are pleased to celebrate our relationship with iGIFTsight - a Calgary-based Canadian charity with a Canada-wide mission; if you've not heard about iGIFTsight, we urge you to invest a few moments of your time - click on a link to the site. You'll learn there is an unmet need for vision service in our communities. Getting eye exams, treatment, glasses and other corrective actions is something most of us take for granted as something we have funds or a benefit program, or that services are available where we live. This is made worse when families are already stretched so very far. If you can help, please consider helping in any that you can.

+ Government of Alberta is now projecting a $2.9 billion surplus (vs. $365.0 million budgeted) for the current fiscal year; yet the government says that’s an accounting thing, not an indication of funds available for funding anything. This seems odd to this scribe on two points: why is such a wide variance in financial planning not investigated, when the answer for so many worthy projects and delayed access to life saving cancer care?
+ Government of Alberta hived off a piece of Alberta Health Services to create a new provincial health agency, Recovery Alberta, which began operations September 1st - investing $1.55 billion in 2024-25 to continue building the Alberta Recovery Model.

+ gimme a bread department: our federal government employees are fighting going back to the office 3 days a week; prior to the COVID-19 pandemic they had to work all 5 in the office, but now the poor babies are fighting it as a hardship. While nearly every Canadian suffered person, income and business hardships during the pandemic, we are the taxpayers these people work for; they never lost a nickel of income and ‘we, their empoyers’ funded them getting home-office set ups too. Now these workers and their union are claiming the hardship of it all; whiners! They’d rather work from home, run side-businesses and have more flexibility in their lives without losing an inch of ground or a nickel in their cushy collective agreement and expect Canadians to tolerate them
