 CALGARY OLYMPICS 2026 BID WATCH

Beth Reimer-Heck to General Counsel @ Calgary 2026 Bid Corporation

budge estimates of $5.2 billion to host the games call for $3.0 billion of investment split between three levels of government; so far the only one to peg a number is the Province of Alberta - $700.0 million – and meanwhile Premier Notley is calling on the IOC to pony up more (IOC has committed US$925.0 million) if they want Calgary in the race to be the host city … tic toc

City of Calgary Engage/information site – details on open houses, give your feedback

City of Canmore is seeking provincial funding to augments its proposal to house athletes for the games

International Olympic Committee gave its ‘formal invitation’ forward to Calgary to host the games

Trudeau government has yet to give Calgary a funding commitment; no assurance it’s commitment will be made official before the plebiscite

Notley government announced it will provide $700.0 million for the Olympics if Calgary’s bid is successful; the widely reported requested/expected funding was $1.0 billion (Mayor Nenshi denies it was $1.0 billion but didn’t say what amount was requested) … so this means ‘Olympics on a budget …’

Calgary is one of three cities remaining/short listed to bid: Stockholm, Sweden, Milan/Cortina, Italy and Calgary – all other cities looking at bids have either dropped out or been cut by the Olympic Organizing Committee

Notley government announced it will provide full details of its funding support for the Olympic bid BEFORE the Nov. 13 plebiscite

 the bid process

Feasibility Study and Conceptual Master Hosting Plan [365 page PDF download] – presented to Calgary City Council May 31, 2017
