NEWS SUMMARY

 APRIL 26 ~ May 2 / 2023

+ a deal has been struck – the federal government strike by 150,000 workers is looking like it is near an end, sort of; the deal is ‘tentative’, so it needs to be approved, and it doesn’t cover everyone – because the folks at Canada Revenue Agency are not part of the ‘tentative’ deal; Canadians are without the services of these employees who, so far as we understand, haven’t missed a paycheque yet – so when the unions complain they can’t get a fair deal, it strikes me as really unfair to this taxpayer; tell me your thoughts, but these employees deserve a contract, but they walk of the job, claim they want a contract because they haven’t had one in two years (weren’t we all gridlocked during the pandemic – and they never missed a paycheque then either); CRA and union resumed talks – so this week will see more light shed on this … tik tok …

+ Alberta Election – the starting gun, the Writs have been issued; the election call date was the worst kept secret, and all parties have been campaigning and nominating candidates since the day Danielle Smith won leadership of the UCP last November; but Smith and NDP leader Rachel Notley did campaign launch speeches in Calgary. All experts and mainstream media folk are predicting a very close election; if you want information, to confirm you are on a voters list, or to register to vote (forms were sent out recently based on old lists – there is no face-to-face enumeration) by visiting the Elections Alberta Website

+ AltaGas Ltd. and Royal Vopak formed a JV to develop a large-scale LPG export facility at Ridley Island, BC

+ Calgary Flames owners, City of Calgary and Government of Alberta have agreed to deal to create a new arena to replace the Saddledome, fund construction and related infrastructure – with many details not yet revealed; $1.22 billion capital cost, and requirement of ‘next government of Alberta’ for the GOA portion make this a certain election issue …
