 QUOTES

+ It never occurred to me that I couldn’t live the life I wanted to lead. It never occurred to me that I could be stopped. I had this very simple view: that the reason people who start out with ideals or aspirations don’t do what they dream of doing when they’re young is because they quit. I thought, well, I won’t quit. – Susan Sontag

+ Any fool can know. The point is to understand. – Albert Einstein

CONSTRUCTION NEWS + BUILDING SERVICES INNOVATIONS

+ Kelowna construction crane collapsed yesterday; multiple fatalities reported

+ Nexii Building Solutions Inc. acquired Omicron Canada Ltd.

+ we reported last week that Pannatoni Development Co. was developing a 600,000 sq. ft. facility for Amazon; correction – that’s a 600,000 sq. ft. footprint on a 2.9 million sq. ft. facility …

 INFRASTRUCTURE + P3

+ EllisDon will lead the project – an unsolicited project proposal to the GOA; Prairie Link High-Speed Rail Project secured an MOU with the GOA to build a high-speed rail link connecting Edmonton and Calgary; this is a project that has been floated several times in the past without success – so, maybe, in the fullness of time, it could happen. The estimated capital cost is $9.0 billion. Here’s the key: right of way + many bridges/tunnels and interchanges, so it’s not so much the cost of the rails and cars – it’s having a clear path of travel. Like I said, ‘in the fullness of time’ …
