+ Just Transition – is a term everyone’s talking about, as a political dustup begins between Alberta and Ottawa – something announced in July/2021 but dormant/silent until recently; not being stage managed very well as Premier Smith is fanning the flames of the fire she’s trying to light – a stoking NEP memories and Trudeau bashing to defend Alberta rights, or is it an election readiness issue for the UCP government? It’s looking like some of each. The premise, the thinking, is that a transition program to help workers find new jobs is required now while the consensus in Alberta is that it is an Un-Justin-transition notion, one Alberta has no appetite for, need for, or stomach for; Alberta produces Canada’s oil and natural gas – fuels we rely on, and industry that fills Ottawa’s coffers. Beware Mr. Trudeau, the younger, Albertans have a good memory of Ottawa/PMO/Liberal meddling in our resource industries. It’s not a UPC/Smith issue, or a Trudeau issue – it’s a real and serious Alberta issue. Alberta will lead the country in growth and key economic indicators this year, and Ottawa should be bloody glad of that. As for Ms. Smith who has admitted her Sovereignty Act needs to stay in the drawer is make noise. Meanwhile, Albertans are busy working hard and no appetite for Ottawa’s false claims we aren’t concerned about the environment because we are better/cleaner producers than other counties … tic toc
