NEWS SUMMARY
 Apr. 21 - 28

Arcan Resources Ltd. agreed to be acquired by Aspenleaf Energy Limited

 ATB – daily economist’s outlook

Calgary Flames defeated Vancouver Canucks in their series and now advance to play the Anaheim Ducks in NHL Stanley Cup playoffs …

Cenovus Energy Inc. hired adivsors to explore sale or IPO of its royalty lands in Western Canada – expected to raise $1.6 billion

Connacher Oil and Gas Limited got its final court order allowing its $1 billion recapitalization

crude oil storage at Cushing, OK rose to 78%, highest since they started measuring.

current energy prices – live link to Bloomberg energy prices ; oil rose this week – Brent over US$64/barrel over middle east supply concerns, WTI US$56/barrel  … fingers crossed …

dissident shareholder West Face Capital Inc. is taking steps to nominate replacement directors at Gran Tierra Energy Inc.

Deutsche Bank AG settlement – to pay US$2.5 billion in penalties for its role in the LIBOR rate fixing scandal

earnings season is here – public companies will begin releasing earnings statements this week and nobody is expecting rosy news and disastrous news is expected from many firms across the board (ie: Precision Drilling just announce a 76% drop in profits) …

Gibson Energy Inc. announced it will build a further 900,000 barrels of storage capacity at its Hardisty West Terminal, expected to be in-service by mid-2017

Harper government budget; Finance Minister Oliver says Canada will have a skinny $1.4 billion surplus this year (sounds like a rounding error!) as the government girds for an October election

Harvest International New Energy Co. Ltd. commenced a friendly take-over bid to acquire Alter NRG Corp.

Ithaca Energy Inc. agreed to sell Ithaca Petroleum Norge AS for US$60 million plus ongoing participation

Parkit Enterprises Inc. formed a JV with Och-Ziff Real Estate to acquire up to $500 million of income producing parking assets

PetroChina Co. and China Petroleum Chemical Corp. rumoured to be on the verge of a merge ... tic toc …

Prentice/election watch: PC party insiders say things are fine in Calgary and southern Alberta with the NDP surging in Edmonton – and polls of ‘decided voters’ call it a dead heat with PC, NDP and Wildrose. Prentice reversed his position on cancellation of the charitable tax credit and he stumbled in leaders debate, Notely scored well … so the question of whether Albertans will toss out the PC’s is valid and concerning, because it would be ‘what is the alternative?’ Alberta has never EVER had a minority government, but that risk is now very real depending on weather on election day and whether parties get their vote out. Consensus, nobody likes the economic landscape and general reaction to tax/fee increases and cost cuts proposed by Prentice aren’t sitting well with Albertans as oil & gas royalties tumble with soft market prices … tic toc … as undecided voters are … undecided

PSAC (Petroleum Services Association of Canada) published its revised Drilling Activity Forecast for 2015

RECA, Alberta’s real estate industry regulator, announced changes to real estate licensing for new practitioners entering the business after June 1, 2015; will require ‘industry sector’ for licensing – which means agents trained in residential, or commercial, or rural real estate or property management will be limited to practicing in their designated sector only unless they take further eduction. Anyone licenced as of May 31st is not affected by the new model; this has been a LONG TIME COMING … and bodes well for the improvement of the industry

Scientific Drilling International acquired Marksman Ranging Technologies; terms not disclosed

Sobeys Inc. agreed to acquire Co-op Atlantic; corporated food and gas retail stores and wholesale assets – control of a portfolio of supermarkets and convenience stores in Eastern Canada; many of those stores are independently owned but will full under the Sobey’s umbrella for supply of merchandise, branding etc.

Surge Energy Inc. agreed to sell a portfolio of crude oil assets in SE Saskatchewan to TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. for $430 million

TransCanada Corp. is proposing a new pipeline; the Upland pipeline would carry U.S. crude from North Dakota to connect with its Energy East pipeline in SE Saskatchewan; the $600 million project will, just like Keystone XL, require U.S. Presidential approval … tic toc

Virginia Hills Oil Corp. closed $51 million acquisition of assets in the Red Earth area

climate change paper says 3 of 4 extreme heat days are human activity caused …
