Alberta COVID-19 restrictions remain in effect – a RETURN TO STEP 1 FULL  - due to case levels and anticipated surge in pressure on hospitalizations as variant cases spike – Premier Kenney video shows graphs and makes hopeful assurances of ‘return to normal’ this summer, including Stampede … – we’ll see

Alberta COVID-19 vaccinations:  AstraZeneca vaccine now available to all Albertans over 40

ABTraceTogether – get the APP

Air Canada to refund all fares for flights cancelled by COVID-19 since Feb. 1, 2020

Canada ranked #1 country in the world by US News and World Report

City of Calgary 2021 elections; now 11 declared candidates running for mayor: Ian Chaing, Jeremy Farkas, Brad Field , Jyoti Gondek, Larry Heather, Dean Hopkins, Kevin Johnston, Zane Novak,Teddy Ogbonna, Shaoli Wang,  Grace Yan , and  54 candidates so far have filed nomination papers for 14 Ward seats on council ~ and lots of other rumoured candidates exploring a run …

EARTH DAY this week; 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd; Canadian Earth Day site

Calfrac Well Services Ltd.’s reorganization is over – except, it’s not; Wilks Brothers LLC are seeking leave to appeal the Supreme Court of Canada to ‘unscramble the egg’

current energy prices; live link to current Bloomberg energy prices / OilPrice.com; prices rise over the week on revival of demand - WTI at US$63/bbl – Brent @ US$67/bbl

flavour of the week is GREEN; it’s Earth Day on Wednesday, every PR office in the country is banging out ESG/Green project press releases and the media is focused on every politician kissing a green project … or, as Kermit always said, it’s not easy being green

Government of Canada budget speech; $101.0 billion spending plan, debt to cross $1.0 trillion mark – it doesn’t have a little bit for everything; instead, A LOT FOR MANY THINGS … with hopes of balancing the budget and repaying debt are way out in the future and questionable. This ‘first budget in two-years’ is COVID delayed but also a result of the government doing its business by fiat from the PMO … we’ll see how this plays in parliament – but expect a non-confidence motion next week and an election call soon after; VIEW THE BUDGET, feedback/comments from Scotiabank, from manufacturers & exporters, from Payments Canada, from the Canadian Cancer Society, from Canadian Federation of Independent Business, from the Canadian Marketing Association, from the Retail Council of Canada, from Privacy and Access Council, from Calgary Chamber of Commerce, from KPMG, from pwc, from EY, from Tech-Access Canada, from Strategy Corp., from Mitacs Inc., from Mining Association of Canada , from RSM Canada, from On-Site Construction magazine, and from Insurance Bureau of Canada – the only clear path appears to be the road to an election …

Russel Metals Inc. agreed to merge their Canadian OCTG/Line Pipe Business with Marubeni-Itochu Tubulars America Inc.; Russel Metals nets $138.0 million in cash and retains 50%

will the equivalent of Marshal Law be popping up across Canada soon? … closing provincial borders, the prospect of unjustified random roadside checks on provincial travel is unsettling many Canadians – and this going to continue without any harmony among provinces – and the protests over gathering-restrictions aren’t going away anytime soon, which won’t end well …
